Christmas was really enjoyable. We made packages of goodies to deliver to friends from sugar cookies to peanut butter popcorn. Then we got to spend Christmas with our friends, Mike and Jenn Joyner.
The kids loved putting up the Christmas tree. Grandma and Grandpa Young also sent presents for the 12 days of Christmas. Each night, the kids couldn't hardly wait to open the packages. Thank you Grandma and Grandpa Young!!
Just before November, we had the terrible news that Sarah's Uncle Dorman passed away suddenly. She really felt the need to be there and so Jenn offered to drive with her to make it possible. It was a tough drive, 48 hours straight driving time one direction, but it sure was worth it. It was great to see Aunt Peggy and renew relations with family.
In early October 2010, we were blessed and had a windfall of apples and pears. So, we spent a lot of time canning them and making apple pie filling to can. The kids LOVED peeling the apples. For Halloween, our local church ward had a trick or treat party at the church. Mackenzie wanted to be a doggy and Jay wanted to be a fireman.
In October, we got to go to Mount Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts. It was an amazing view! Then for Sarah's 27th Birthday, Jenn planned a great party with friends. James surprised Sarah and bought her a Bosch for her birthday. She is truly in LOVE with it!!
Then, on September 6th Boise State played Virginia Tech and we got to go. Grandma Young was so sweet and stayed at the hotel with the kids so that we could go. Boise State won and it was a great game! After Grandma and Grandpa flew home, Robert drive up the coast with us. We stopped in Philadelphia and then New York City. He had the opportunity to stay with us and see Massachusetts and Vermont too. Love having him with us and hard to see him leave!
September 4th, we left early in the morning and drove down to George Washington's estate at Mount Vernon in Alexandria, Virginia. Then we checked into our hotel and James went to pick up Robert and Grandma and Grandpa Young from the airport. We got to spend time touring Washington, D.C., from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to the Mall. It was all amazing.
At the end of August, we drove down to Springfield, MA, to go to the zoo. Jay loved the playground, but Mackenzie loved the animals. Then, the primary planned a day at the Boston Temple for the kids.
In August, James set up the tent in the back yard. All three of them loved spending the night out there, mom stayed inside in her nice cozy bed. We also went hiking in the beautiful hills here. (they call them mountains, but they really are barely hills)
July and August were a time of picking fruits and veggies and then experimenting with new and interesting recipes. We made an amazing fresh blueberry pie with homemade crust and crumble topping. Truly delicious! I also found my favorite dinner, Stromboli. Basically a stuffed and rolled pizza. Not easy to make, but amazing to eat!!
When we moved in, we had the best fortune of meeting Jenn and Mike Joyner. They had us over for dinner the first night after we moved in. Jenn offered to go with us to the 4th of July parade. Jay LOVED the firetrucks and firemen and Mackenzie loved the people around us. We also had the opportunity to enjoy the local pick your own fruit patches. We picked a lot of raspberries, blueberries, tomatoes, and peppers. They were all so delicious, we went multiple times. Not sure which was more fun, picking the blueberries or eating them as we picked!
Right after we moved into our place in Pittsfield, we celebrated our sweet girl's 2nd Birthday.
Grandpa Young was so amazing and drove back to Missouri to help us move to Massachusetts. After that long drive, we went down to New York City to see the sights. It was an amazing experience!
